BIGGEST SMELLY FLOWER

Just recently it was heard on the news that a rare big flower bloomed in Japan after a gap of 20 years. It attracted thousands of visitors in Koishikawa Botanical Garden, Japan. This flower known as Amorphophallus  titanium,Titan Arum, carrion flower, corpse flower or corpse plant of the family Araceae is native of Indonesia's Sumatra island were it is being called as bunga bangkai (bunga means flower and bangkai means corpse). It stands 5 feet tall at full bloom it emitted a pungent odor that is described as similar to a rotten meat or a raw garbage which reports says reaches 1/2 mile when the wind was right.. Its inflorescence can reach 3 meters in circumference and it has only a few days of flowering phase.

A distant related kind of flower which is the Rafflesia of family Vitaceae is a genus of parasitic flowering plant. It has approximately 27 species. Rafflesia is a big kind of pungent odor emitting flower that is usually found in Southeast Asia. It was the official state flower of Indonesia, also Sabah state in Malaysia and as well as the Surat Thani province in Thailand. Several species of this flower was found in the Philippines including the r. manillana and r.Banahawensis. It was first discovered at the rainforest of Indonesia in 1818  by an Indonesian guide who was working for Dr. Joseph Arnold and named it after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles who was the leader of the expedition.

HOW WELL DO YOU LOVE YOUR DOG?

How well do you love your dog? Are you taking them for granted. OH No! don't you think its time to give them the attention they need, give them some cuddle and treat them to a walk. Just like humans dogs needs proper care too. They won't be called mans bestfriend for nothing. Their loyalty, devotion and intelligence are incredibly rewarding. No other animals displays such traits.  Here's some advice for you..


Grooming - they need to be groomed too. Do it at least twice a week or depending on your dog's coat type. Brushing your dog will help their coat stay mat free, odorless and healthy.

Nails - your dog's nails needs to be trimmed or it will bring pain to your dogs. You can do it yourself without the need of a groomer by using a special kind of dog clippers.

Chewing - Are you annoyed by your dog chewing just everything? Why not give them a nylon bone or a squeaky toy.

Ears - your dog needs they ears to be clean. You may have to clean to them regularly. Try using a cotton buds soaked in oil and wipe the ears out thoroughly, take a cotton ball then put baby oil on it and stick it in the ear and twist. done!

Walking - take your dog out and keep him on a routine this will help them to learn how to housebreak and make less mistake at home. (Housebreaking is the process of training a domesticated animal that lives with its human owners in a house to eliminate outdoors, or in a designated indoor area, rather than inside the house.)

Feeding - your pet dogs need to be fed twice a day or depending on the dog type. Be sure to give them fresh water and don't just give them food. Be aware that not all edible for humans can be suitable for your dogs too. They have different metabolism. Some foods may cause mild upset in their stomach, others may cause severe illness and others may cause death.

Here are some foods you must avoid feeding your dogs...

Alcoholic beverages that may cause intoxication, coma and even death.
Cat Foods which are generally too high in proteins and fats.
Bones which may obstruct or lacerate their digestive system.
Grapes and raisins which contains unknown toxins that can damage their kidneys.
Hops which can cause panting, increased heart rate, elevated temperature, seizures and death
Human vitamins that contains iron may damage their digestive system linings and other organs including their liver and kidneys.
Avocado can cause diarrhea and vomiting because it contains persin.
Fish may it be raw, cooked or canned can cause vitamin B deficiency and may lead to loss of appetite, seizures or sometimes death.
Macadamia nuts can affect digestive system, nervous system and their muscles.
Milk and other dairy products can cause diarrhea to adult dogs if given in large amounts.
Raw Eggs can cause coat problems.
Salt if given in large amount can cause electrolyte imbalance.
Sugary foods can lead to diabetes, obesity and dental problems.
Xylitol or artificial sugar can cause hypoglycemia which can cause liver failure, vomiting and weakness.
Chocolates and coffee can cause vomiting and diarrhea and be toxic to the heart and nervous system.

Remember your dogs have emotions too. They range a lot of emotions just like we do. This are just a few things that might help you in caring your dogs. There are still a lot of things that could help you give the utmost care for your bestfriend.

GOOGLE TO COMPETE WITH FACEBOOK???

What's this? The internet's search giant, GOOGLE is said to compete with the famous and number one social networking site FACEBOOK.

Wall Street Journal says Google is on their way on developing another social networking site aside from ORKUT which is a big business in South America and India. Some reports said the new networking site will be named as GOOGLE ME. Back in February, Google has launched Twitter's competitor Buzz but was condemned for its privacy isssues.

Facebook has a lot of games to offer as we know and Google is on their way to be the best rival as there have been reports that they are negotiating with Electronic Arts Inc.'s PLAYFISH, PLAYDOM INC., and Zynga Network. 

PLAYDOM INC. has a lot of networking games such as Sorority Life, Social City, Fanglies, Market Street, World Series Poker, Mobsters, Verdonia, Tiki Resort, Treetopia, Mobsters2(vendetta), Big City Life, Wildones, BOLA, and Mobsters Overdrive. Walt Disney Co. said earlier on Tuesday(July 27) that they are planning to buy PLAYDOM INC. for $ 563.2 M.

Now my question is would social networking fanatics and social gamers waste time on another social networking site? Will they leave facebook for Google Me as what they do to Friendster? We'll see...

HIS EXCELLENCY BENIGNO S. AQUINO III DELIVERS HIS FIRST SONA

According to People.com Angelina Jolie had to be in tip-top shape as her role in her latest movie SALT calls for. She plays as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent in the movie. Her trainer Simon Crane says Jolie ate 5 small meals a day and stuck to the diet of 70% carbohydrates and 30% protein and actually avoided cardio, to put on muscles without losing weight. Jolie avoided junk foods and drink alcohol only on weekends.
With 2 hours session 5 days a week of training, Crane says Angelina knew that she was going to suffer. When she began to shoot, they took the training down a notch by doing four weekly sessions over lunch breaks and altered the SALT diet to 60% carbohydrates and 40% protein.

THE SECRETS OF THE US ONE DOLLAR BILL?

Honestly, I don't know how many blogs have been made regarding this article but still I like to post this as it has been requested by a good friend of mine. It must have been curiosity that led him to ask me to make an article about this. Who among you had a clear idea as to why the "eye of providence" was put on the US One Dollar bill? Among the US dollar currencies, the One dollar bill is the most common denomination and it has also the second oldest design ever produced. Noticed the word " In God We Trust" was included on all their currencies? the reason is that it was required by the law in 1955 and on 1957 the national motto first appeared on paper money and do you know that this American national motto was denounced by the American Humanist Association just last week. 




ON THE FRONT SIDE

On the front side of the bill you will see the logo of the US Treasury Seal


the scale represents justice but for some it was a symbolizes a balanced budget. The chevron with 13 stars represent the thirteen original US colonies and underneath is a key that represents the symbol of authority.








ON THE REVERSE SIDE

Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were among the first committee who were assigned to develop a seal for the United States. It took six years before the version of the Great Seal was approved. The left hand circle  Is a pyramid with the "eye of providence" above. This pyramid wasnot a part of the proposals for the Great Seal until the third committee, and it was NOT suggested by either Jefferson, Franklin, or Adams. Charles Thompson said the pyramid represented "Strength and Duration." Noticed that Northern part is lighted and was dark on the Western part? it has been interpreted that America have just begun and not yet explored the western side. The pyramid was uncapped that symbolizes that their country was not yet finish. The cap has the all seeing eye in it which is said to be the ancient symbol of divinity. The Latin word ANNUIT COEPTIS means God has favored our undertaking. The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, is interpreted to mean "a new order for the world." At the base of the pyramid is the Roman Numeral for 1776.
On the right hand circle was the Seal of President of the United States. On the Great Seal is the American Bald Eagle. Why the Bald Eagle? they said that the eagle is not afraid of the storm, strong and smart enough to soar above. The latin word " E PLURIBUS UNUM" means one nation from many people.


ON THE NUMBER 13


For many people, the number 13 is considered as unlucky. This is also the reason you cannot see room number 13 and no 13the floor on establishments/buildings. Have a look on the One Dollar Bill and you will find that there are a lot of objects there that counts 13.

GLOW OF HEALTH

It is nutrition month once again and it is time to give concern to our health. We always hear the words "Health is wealth" especially from our elders who knows too well how good health could serve people in their old age. What does it mean to be healthy? Good health really shows inside and out. A healthy person usually show a lean body, shiny hair, white teeth, rosy complexion, bright eyes, and smiling face.

The food we eat and do not eat contributes largely to our overall health. The secrets as attested by nutritionist, is to have the right combinations of food in the right quantities. A healthy food includes a variety of  foods that provides nutrients the body needs. Eating the right foods will surely take you to the path of good health. Good health also means that our bodies do not easily succumb to sickness or if they do, we are able to recover from them easily.

SO WHAT  NUTRIENTS IN FOOD DOES KEEP OUR BODIES HEALTHY?
@ Fat for stored energy
@ Protein for building muscles and healing of wounds

LITTLE BITES COULD KILL!!!

Still in relevance to rainy season there is another disease that we should be aware of...DENGUE!
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) - is an acute infectious viral diseases usually affecting infants and young children. It is characterized by fever during the initial phase, and other symptoms like headache, pain in the eye, joint pains, muscle pain, etc. followed by signs of bleeding, that is petechiae (red tiny spots on the skin), nosebleeding, gumbleeding. If there is blood in the stools and/or blood in the vomitus and accompanied by shock, this is called Dengue Shock Syndrome and is often fatal.

Aedes Aegypti, the transmitter of the disease, is a day-biting mosquito which lays eggs in clear water container, such as flower vases, cans, rain barrels, old rubber tires, etc. The adult mosquitoes rest in dark places of the house.

THE SYMPTOMS OF DENGUE H-FEVER

1. Sudden onset of high fever which may last 2 to 7 days.
2. Joint and muscle pain and pain behind the eyes.
3. Weakness
4. Skin rashes -  maculopapular rash or tiny red spots on the skin called petechiae
5. Nosebleeding when fever starts to subside.
6. Enlargement of the liver
7. Vomitting of coffee-colored matter
8. Dark-colored stools

PREVENTION

@The community should organize themselves to remove all possible breeding places of mosquitoes inside and outside the houses such as tin cans, rubber tires, bottles or drain accumulated water from trees and plants.

@Cover water storage containers to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.

@Clean house gutters to prevent stagnation of rain water.

@Isolate patients suffering from Dengue H-Fever for at least 5 days.

@Report to the nearest health center any suspected case of Dengue H-Fever in the neighborhood.

BEWARE OF FLOOD WATERS

Our sufferings from the hot and dry El Nino was still fresh from our mind and now here comes its cold counterpart La Nina. Expecting that La Nina will provoke more rains, we also have to assume added features such as flashfloods, overflowing canals, and floating garbage. There are certain diseases that occur during rainy season and on of these is leptospirosis.

What is leptospirosis? Leptospirosis is an acute, generalized infectious disease characterized by extensive inflammation of a blood or lymph vessel. The causative organism are slender, finely-coiled bacteria called leptospira. Some of the types mostly found in human infection include L.ictero-haemorrhagiae, L. manilae, and L.pomona.
Leptospirosis is primarily a disease of wild and domestic animals. The most important sources of infection are rats, dogs, cats and cattle that discharges leptospira in their urine. Worldwide, rats are the common source of human infection. Humans are infected only through direct or indirect contact with animals.

Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, chills, muscle aches, vomiting, Jaundice & hemorrhagic manifestations. Patients may develop respiratory distress and liver and kidney failure and may die, if they are not treated in time.

TYPHOONS ARE THE PHILIPPINES' MOST DEVASTATING VISITORS

I have been away from my keyboard for 2 days since my area suffered from power outage due to Typhoon Conson (Basyang).  July 13, (Thursday) I heard on the news that a storm was to hit the Philippine Island and  thought it would be just  like any other weather forecast that I usually hear on the news that would just pass and still seems like normal weather. I was totally surprised! It really never comes to my mind that this typhoon would be that strong and would turned out to be a deadly typhoon.  When I heard Basyang's whirling wind and power supply had been cut,  I felt uneasy because it reminds me of my experience with typhoon Milenyo a few years ago, the only difference is that Milenyo lashed the Philippines in the morning and Basyang strucked in the wee hours of the day.
The Philippines is considered the most prone to natural calamities and disasters in Asia. This is largely due to the frequent visit of strong tropical storms. An average of 20 typhoons slams this archipelago yearly. The Philippines faces the Pacific ocean that is know to be the SPAWNing  area of tropical cyclones. Several of this were so strong and devastating to the environment and the economy(which may take decades to recover). Yearly, hundreds of people died of typhoons some are by drowning and others by sustaining fatal injuries from falling structures or facilities. In typhoon Basyang's wrath, the death toll from across the Philippines according to the Inquirer.net rose to 26 with 44 people missing. Majority of the fatalities are from the area of CALABARZON.

ANGEL LOCSIN: THE FINEST ANGEL

Angel Locsin will be crowned on Thursday, July 15 after having the most number of votes on FHM Philippines' Sexiest Woman in the World. She gained 284,156 votes beating her friend and last year's winner Christine Reyes who only has 227,380 votes. She appeared on FHM's May 2010 issue. This will be her second time to be crowned on the same title. Angel has always been on the top rank of FHM since 2003 where she was at #10, number 6 in 2004, she won the title on 2005, #2 on year 2006, FHM's #3 on 2007 and 2008. This years contenders were Marissa Miller who was hailed as the Global Winner for FHM International, Christine Reyes, Marian Rivera ,Iwa Moto, Angelica Panganiban, Katrina Halili, Regine Velasquez, Valerie "Bangs" Garcia and Ehra Madrigal.
Angel thanked her fans through her twitter account last June 29 saying: "  To all my Angels, thank you so much for loving me☺ I am so blessed to have you guys! It's a beautiful feeling to know that I have so many Angels in my life♡ again, thank you! When asked on tweeter to confirm the gossips about him going to Miami Heat, LeBron just asked his followers to click on his link which will redirect you to his official homepage, there you would see a big message on the left that says : "Next year, I will be playing for The Miami Heat. I would like to thank all of my fans for supporting me and I am looking forward to seeing you guys next season as I chase the NBA Championship." It was last Thursday, (July 8) when he had exercised his contractual rights. In Miami Heat, he will be playing with his friend Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh who has been his mates during the Olympics as the USA Team's All-Stars. Like James,  Bosh will also leave Toronto Raptors for Miami.  It was rumored that the Three had long been planning to play as team mates. Wade says it was the fact that Bosh will be coming over to Miami that made him stay. He was also quoted saying that he would only be staying on his team if  Miami Heat would lured either James or Bosh to South Florida. Finally, all of this are confirmed and the three will be playing as team mates on the Heat next season.
